Alondra Santos - Castillo

Scenic Designer
Thatre Artist/Illustrator

I was born into this world with a rare diagnosis of Arthrogryposis, which is a disability that affects the hands and feet with deformity and limited mobility. Despite the potential reality that most children would be bound to a wheelchair and unable to walk with mobility in their limbs; I rose to the challenge. My diagnosis did not stifle my desire to create worlds and generate landscapes through art.

I love to design with high ambitions and bending the reality on what we see and interpret. I live with the constant desire to allow people to have just a moment where they forget all their problems in this world and allow them to be transformed into a world that I create.

What I see in this world is a lack of having more accessibility designers. Whether that is because there isn’t anyone to represent them, or if there are not enough people to advocate developing solutions for accommodations, it remains something vital that I will always be searching for and trying to fight for more in this society. There needs to be just as much inclusivity backstage as there is on stage, which requires further improvement in itself. I want to impact a change in a world that keeps evolving every day.
